From Palancia to the Black Sea: Notus Promotes Climate Resilience and Urban Accessibility in Varna

On March 26th and 27th, the city of Varna (Bulgaria) hosted a transnational workshop for the FOSTER project, organized by the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA). Coordinated by ALDA-European Association for Local Democracy and funded by the EU’s CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) program, the initiative brings together six European territories, including Alto Palancia, to address climate impacts through local democracy and foresight strategies.

Co-creation and Inclusive Urban Spaces

The workshop in Varna focused on transforming underused areas into vibrant green spaces, aligned with the city’s Green Urban Transition Plan 2030. A key field activity was a guided study visit to identify architectural barriers, highlighting the need for inclusive urban planning that considers people with disabilities, the elderly, and families. These insights helped formulate policy recommendations for more accessible and sustainable cities.

Building Resilience in Alto Palancia

These European exchanges directly support the local roadmap that Notus is implementing in the Alto Palancia region. In collaboration with the Alto Palancia Local Employment and Development Pact, Notus has facilitated three participatory workshops to co-create solutions and build a more resilient territory with the participation of local municipalities and citizens.
