Notus and European experts debate in Zaragoza how to protect employment amid the twin green and digital transition
On March 11th and 12th, the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Zaragoza hosted the international meeting of the EGRUiEN project (Encouraging a digital and Green transition through Revitalized and Inclusive Union-Employer Negotiations). The event, which included an institutional welcome by the University’s Vice-Rector, brought together over 30 experts and partners from nine European countries to analyze how collective bargaining can ensure that the twin transition (green and digital) is socially just and inclusive.
Research in Strategic Sectors
During the two-day workshop, locally coordinated by the GISCI research group, significant progress was presented in the analysis of several economic sectors facing profound transformations:
- Automotive Sector. Progress on the work package led by Cardiff University was discussed, focusing on the analysis of national cases in Italy, Poland, and Spain to understand the impact of electrification on the industry.
- Energy Sector. The team from the University of Oslo presented updates covering transition dynamics in countries such as Austria, Estonia, Finland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
- On-demand Transport and Care Services. The second day focused on reviewing research protocols and selecting specific cases for these sectors, analyzing how to revitalize social dialogue to protect the most vulnerable groups.
Notus’s Role and Project Significance
As a consortium partner, Notus actively participates in identifying negotiation tools that allow unions and employers to anticipate economic disruptions. The EGRUiEN project, funded by the Horizon Europe program, aims to revitalize dialogue between social partners so that decarbonization and automation do not lead to a loss of rights, but rather to an improvement in job quality across the European Union.
The meeting concluded with the planning of upcoming scientific milestones and dissemination activities for the year, consolidating the transnational collaboration network leading this research.
