Description
EGRUIEN – ENCOURAGING A DIGITAL AND GREEN TRANSITION THROUGH REVITALIZED AND INCLUSIVE UNION-EMPLOYER NEGOTIATIONS
The main purpose of the project is to analyse the role of social dialogue in managing the digital and green transition in Europe. In a context of accelerated structural changes affecting production, employment and labour skills, the project aims to identify strategies that enable social partners (trade unions, employers and governments) to ensure a fair and inclusive transition for all workers.
The study focuses on two major challenges:
- Protection of precarious and non-standard workers: Identifying how social dialogue can improve the representation and protection of these workers in sectors with high precariousness, such as on-demand transport and care.
- Preventing precariousness of workers in traditional jobs: To assess how digitalisation and the green transition may affect workers in more established industrial sectors, such as automotive and energy, and what measures can be taken to prevent their deterioration in terms of job stability.
In order to do so, the project will examine previous experiences of social dialogue in similar transitions, assess the current state of negotiations between trade unions and employers, and identify innovative tools to strengthen these processes in the future.
Main objectives
- Assess how social dialogue institutions and practices can contribute to a just digital and ecological transition.
- Investigate the impact of these processes in key sectors such as automotive, energy, on-demand transport/taxis and care services.
- Analyse historical experiences of social dialogue in previous transitions and assess their effectiveness.
- Develop research-based tools to revitalise social dialogue and make it more inclusive and effective.
