CATALAN SOCIETY IN THE 21ST CENTURY.
Funding body: Institute of Catalan Studies
Notus team: Oriol Homs, Pablo Sanz, Maria Caprile and Serrat Vilanova
The project’s main objective is to develop an interpretative framework of the recent evolution of Catalan society and its future prospects in the XXI century by identifying main trends. It aims to contribute to a better understanding of Catalan society, beyond current partial interpretations. The research will integrate existing knowledge about the different dimensions of Catalan reality, including an analysis of economic, societal, cultural, and political dimensions in order to develop a coherent set of interpretative hypotheses to explain the current situation and the potential of future developments.
This is not a descriptive report of Catalan reality, but it seeks to paint a comprehensive picture to highlight the interrelationships between facts and the interactive dynamics of social structures and collective action. Oriol Homs has participated in the coordination of the research and provides a synthesis of the contributions as well as an analysis of empirical studies of Catalan society. Maria Caprile and Pablo Sanz provide a specific chapter examining employment and inequality.
